OK, everyone goes on about the weather and to be fair, it isn’t all that much to write home about. But there are plenty of other things you can enthral the folks back home with instead. Britain has more great places to visit and things to do than you can shake a stick at! Once you’ve seen as much of London as you can bear for a while, how about heading for the country? It really isn’t difficult to get to the Lake District or Belfast, or Bristol or Brighton (where Ozone lives!), or Cardiff, Cornwall or Edinburgh for the festival, or the Isle of Wight or the Mull of Kintyre? And the list goes on...
And getting there doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive either. If you want to take the bus you can get a return trip from London to Swansea or Glasgow for £1 each way!! Hiring a car doesn’t have to be too expensive and you should be able to rent a small car for a week from around £100, which is a reasonable price in itself, but spread between 4 people really does make for a cheap way to see the country. And even Britain’s railways have improved lately and you can find some great bargains if you search hard enough and book far enough ahead!
Did you know that England is separated from the European mainland by only 34km of sea? So, if you want to go further afield, Europe really is no distance away. France is closest but how about Greek Island hopping or partying in Ibiza in the summer, snow skiing in Switzerland or visiting the Ice Hotel in northern Sweden in winter? And we found weekend return flights from London to Venice for £40 and a midweek return flight to Cologne (aka Köln, in Germany), famed for its Eau, its beautiful Gothic cathedral and great beer for only £14 including all taxes!!
And you can go from the centre of London to the centre of Paris by train in under 2 1/2 hours so why not spoil yourself and go for lunch? From experience, Ozone can recommend a lovely little restaurant and piano bar in Montmartre! And for when you want to go a bit further, there is always New York for £169 in the winter! The list is endless and travel really is both possible and affordable.
